In today’s Monday lesson of Daily Uke Challenge, we’re focusing on fingerpicking while working with the chords that come from the C major scale: C, Am, Em, F, G, Am, Bdim7, and C.

This lesson will help you develop control, accuracy, and a deeper connection to each chord’s sound through a specific fingerpicking pattern.

The Fingerpicking Pattern:

We’ll use three fingers to play the pattern:

  • Thumb: Plays both the 4th and 3rd strings.
    • Rest Stroke on the 4th string: After plucking, let your thumb rest on the 3rd string, creating a fuller and more controlled sound.
    • Free Stroke on the 3rd string: Here, your thumb lifts away from the string after plucking, allowing for a lighter tone.
  • Index Finger: Plays the 2nd string with a free stroke, producing a clear note.
  • Middle Finger: Plays the 1st string, also with a free stroke, for a bright, ringing sound.

The use of rest and free strokes adds dimension to your fingerpicking, allowing you to highlight specific notes.

This technique enhances each chord in the progression, from C to Am, Em to F, and so on, letting the melody shine through the harmonic structure of C major.
