Let me guess

You know your C, your Am, your F, your G. You can strum along to a good number of songs, and honestly, that's a lovely place to be.

And still, every time you pick up your uke, it's the same four chords, the same strum, the same songs. You watch another YouTube tutorial, you try a bit of this, a bit of that, and nothing really changes. We've all been there.

I once thought the ukulele was a toy instrument. Boy, was I wrong. Four strings, and you can go anywhere on them. Think about Jake Shimabukuro. Think about the amazing Taimane. The instrument is not the ceiling.

So what's missing? It's not talent, and it's not more tutorials. It's something much simpler.

You don't have a lessons problem. You have a routine problem.

The internet gave us infinite ukulele videos and took away the one thing every musician actually needs: an order to learn them in.

When I entered the Conservatory at 16, nobody handed me ten thousand random lessons. I had a routine. This to practise today, this tomorrow, this next week. Every day built on the day before. That's how real progress works, on every instrument, and it has not changed in three hundred years of teaching music.

So I built that routine for you. It's called the Daily Uke Challenge, and it works like this.

One week in the Quest

Every week, we focus on one chord progression, from a popular song or one of my original compositions. Then each day, we practise that same progression through a different skill:

Monday

Fingerstyle. The delicate art of fingerpicking, bringing out melody and harmony at the same time.

Tuesday

Strumming. Rhythm day. New strumming patterns every week, including the rhythmic and percussive elements that make a simple progression groove.

Wednesday

Technique. Chord transitions, finger dexterity, dynamics. The elements that make everything easier.

Thursday

Creativity. We alter voicings, add a melody to the chords, and make the music your own.

Friday

Performing. We cap the week by crafting a simple solo over the progression, and you get a backing track to improvise over. Yes, you, soloing on the ukulele. By Friday, you will.

Sat + Sun

Rest, or review. You have a life. The routine knows it.

Fifteen minutes a day. Fifteen minutes a day. That's the whole ask. Not because fifteen minutes is magic, but because fifteen focused minutes, in the right order, every day, beats two disorganised hours on a Sunday. Every time.

A real example. Suppose this week's progression is B flat major 7, C, D minor and C6, very close to Hans Zimmer's Interstellar theme, in low G tuning. Monday you fingerpick it. Tuesday you learn a strumming pattern that gives it a pulse. Wednesday we work the pull-offs inside it. Thursday we lay a melody on top with the D minor scale. Friday you solo over the backing track.

One progression. Five skills. One week. And you feel it.

What Students are Saying

Meet your teacher

I'm Marco Cirillo. I started classical guitar at 11, entered the Conservatory of Salerno at 16, and graduated in classical guitar at 21. I refined modern guitar in Rome with masters like Umberto Fiorentino and Fabio Zeppetella, then spent ten years in London playing and teaching. For the last eight years I've been teaching ukulele and guitar to hundreds of thousands of people on YouTube.

These days I live near Naples with my son Alex, and I get to do the thing I love most: helping people fall in love with playing, every single day.

Keep playing,
Marco

Is the Daily Uke Challenge for you?

It's for you if:

  • You know your basic chords: C, A minor, F, G
  • You can strum along to a few songs without stopping
  • You've dabbled in fingerpicking, even just a little
  • You want your favourite songs to sound fuller, richer and more yours

It's not for you if you've never held a ukulele (learn your first three chords, then come back, I'll be here), or you're perfectly happy strumming along to lyric sheets forever. No judgement, truly. The Challenge is for players who want to grow.
